My Home
Hey everyone!
I wanted to just put just a small little post up today because I have no idea what this following week is going to look like, because I started 2nd Year last week (it went really well, we had to make a couch - long story, I'll maybe do a quick post after this about it haha). But basically I don't know how busy I'm going to be, and I don't want to be super bad with blog posts and posting infrequently and such... So, I wanted to write a quick little post today about my home "town" (more like a village), because it's amazing and I love it so much!
Right then... I grew up in Kommetjie, a tiny little village near Noordehoek, and Scarborough. It literally takes 5min to drive through the entire place if you drive along the main road. Like, it's small. I absolutely LOVE it because it hss the BEST community ever! Everyone knows everyone, everyone is super friendly and helpful, and I believe it is possibly the best place to raise a family, and give your kids a sick childhood. I would know this, because I'm pretty sure my brother and I had the best childhood to ever exist. We went to Kommetjie Primary School, and before that Pixie Patch (our PrePrimary School). I just remember it being so much fun; we'd walk down to the beach during school with our whole class and go play at the beach, and build sand castles, and have an awesome day. Stevie and I would ride our bikes or roller blade to school, and it would be such a treat if we were ever picked up (we'd get really excited hahah - that usually only happened on birthdays). I also loved how we would have our entire class over to watch a movie with popcorn, on our huge TV we had back then. Which was a massive ass brick TV compared to now, but it was HUGE!
It is known as a hippie, surfer village (which it is), and when I'm there, my hippie side comes out a bit more hahah... I wear my hippie pants, and no makeup. Or my sarong and bikini, and just feel really relaxed. I lived there until Grade 4 (10 years old), then moved to Port Elizabeth for a year and a half, and eventually moved back to Kommetjie in Grade 7 (13 years old).
I was never the person to walk around by myself, just because I am generally a scaredy cat.. But there are loads of people walking around, walking their dogs or running to the beach - surfboard in hand. I do remember just going to my friends houses after school, and calling my mom when we got to their house and letting her know where I was, and it was so casual and fun.
It is really beautiful and very green and full of nature, it just feels so fresh being there. It's also right next to the mountains, which means we get baboons (but the baboon monitors have kept them out of Komm for a few years now so we haven't seen them in ages), but it also means mountain fires, which are pretty common in summer and the fire helicopters always fly super low and close to our house, with their giant water barrels full.
If you're ever in Cape Town, you should definitely come check Kommetjie out, everyone loves it, and I miss living there, I live with my dad now, but mom is still in Komm, so I do visit when I can.
There is so much I can say about my home, but I'll stop now and just leave some photos I've taken over the years down below.
Where do you live? Leave me a message in the comments.
Thanks for reading! x
